Mortgage Relief Scammers Must Pay $18.5M

A judge has ruled in favor of the Federal Trade Commission against several companies accused of operating mortgage debt relief scams, the FTC has announced. The U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada also slapped an $18.5 million judgment against the scammers.

More than 6,000 homeowners were ripped off by the services, according to the FTC. “These are people who are trying to save their homes,” FTC attorney Jason Schall told Cox Media Group. “People who are often facing foreclosure.”

  • Consumer Defense LLC (Utah)
  • Consumer Link Inc.
  • American Home Loan Counselors
  • American Home Loans LLC
  • Consumer Defense Group LLC (formerly known as Modification Review Board LLC)
  • Brown Legal Inc.
  • AM Property Management LLC
  • FMG Partners LLC
  • Zinly LLC
