The illegal scheme led homeowners facing foreclosure to make payments to EFI rather than their actual mortgage lender.
Kevin Taing, 53, of Lowell, Mass., has received a sentence of three years in state prison and seven years probation, and ordered to pay restitution of $580,710. He is also banned from working as a fiduciary or realtor.
“Taing deliberately targeted vulnerable individuals who were facing foreclosure and struggling to find help,” said Maura Healey, Massachusetts Attorney General.
