Prosecutors Appeal 'Double Jeopardy' Ruling in Manafort Case

New York prosecutors have appealed a decision that dismissed state mortgage fraud charges against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort on “double jeopardy grounds,” arguing that their case is different from the one that put him in federal prison. So reports the Associated Press.

-more-->When Judge Maxwell Wiley decided last December that the mortgage fraud case was too similar to Manafort’s 2018 federal trial, the jurist took an “exceedingly broad view,” according to appeal documents by Manhattan prosecutors.

The federal case resulted in Manafort being found guilty on eight counts of tax and bank fraud, with a hung jury on 10 more counts.
