Manafort’s Mortgage-Fraud Dismissal Upheld By Appeals Court

President Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, has won a victory in his legal battle in his mortgage fraud case. So reports the Associated Press.

!--more-->In December, Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Maxwell Wiley ruled that the state mortgage fraud charges against Manafort constituted “double jeopardy,” because they overlapped with federal convictions against him.

Now, a four-judge panel in the state’s intermediate appeals court has upheld the dismissal, finding that prosecutors failed to show why Manafort’s case should be an exception to state double jeopardy rules.

Manafort was convicted in 2018 of eight counts of tax and bank fraud.
