Developer Pleads Guilty to Condo Conversion Fraud

Marek Harrison, a real estate developer based in Plant City, Florida, has acknowledged running a mortgage fraud scheme involving the condominium conversion of a former hotel near Walt Disney World. So reports the Tampa Bay-Lakeland Business Observer.

Harrison, 56, has pleaded guilty to bank fraud and faces a maximum prison sentence of 30 years, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

According to the plea agreement, between September 2007 and December 2008, Harrison ran a scheme that involved kickbacks of mortgage proceeds to buyers and co-conspirators.
