Fugitives Nabbed Over Multi-State Mortgage Fraud Scheme

Three people involved in an alleged scam resulting in millions of dollars in fraudulent mortgages have been arrested after several months on the run. So reports MarketWatch.

Scam road sign 464653 1920 150x150When the group of alleged scam artists, including a mortgage broker and a real estate agent, were indicted earlier this year by federal prosecutors in Texas, several delayed the legal process with abstruse claims that they were not beholden to U.S. courts.

Heather Ann Campos and David Lewis Best Jr. of Texas, along with Stephen Laverne Crabtree of Utah, are now in custody, according to authorities. While attorneys for Campos and Crabtree didn’t immediately respond to the MarketWatch's messages, Best’s lawyer said, “It’s too early to jump to any conclusions in this case.”
