Are Renters Shifting Toward the Suburbs?

The latest numbers on rent price growth suggest the possibility that renters are beginning to prefer locations in the suburbs. That’s according to Zillow.

!--more-->The real estate marketplace notes that annual rent growth is down 1.4 percentage points in suburban areas, versus a full two percentage points in urban ones. Though modest, that difference runs counter to the pre-pandemic pattern.

The largest differences between suburban and urban rent growth were in Dallas-Fort Worth, Sacramento, San Francisco and the New York metro area.
