Mortgage Scam Sends Tampa Paralegal to Federal Prison

Conspiring to commit bankruptcy fraud in an effort to defraud mortgage companies and homeowners has landed a Tampa paralegal in federal prison for 15 months. So reports the Business Observer.

prison 553836 640smallEric Liebman, 34, and his co-defendant, lawyer James Lee Clark, filed fraudulent bankruptcy documents on behalf of distressed homeowners who had transferred their homes to a company controlled by Liebman. This gave the men time to collect “ill-gotten” rental or other income, according to Liebman’s plea agreement.

Clark, whose sentencing is set for March 17, faces 25 years in prison.
