Mortgage data analytics firm Ascension has settled with the Federal Trade Commission for allegedly failing to properly safeguard customer information. So reports TechCrunch.
In a complaint announced in December 2020, the FTC alleged that a vendor hired by Ascension had stored Social Security numbers, birthdates and other personal information from mortgage documents on an unsecured server.
The settlement, which the FTC approved in a 2-1-1 vote without the involvement of chair Lina Khan, requires Ascension to beef up its security protections and vendor oversight.
