Mortgage Data Firm Settles with Feds Over Security Lapse

Mortgage data analytics firm Ascension has settled with the Federal Trade Commission for allegedly failing to properly safeguard customer information. So reports TechCrunch.

AscenscionIn a complaint announced in December 2020, the FTC alleged that a vendor hired by Ascension had stored Social Security numbers, birthdates and other personal information from mortgage documents on an unsecured server.

The settlement, which the FTC approved in a 2-1-1 vote without the involvement of chair Lina Khan, requires Ascension to beef up its security protections and vendor oversight.
