A Hawaii woman has been ordered to pay more than $1.5 million in civil fines and penalties for a mortgage scam that cost a couple their home. So reports the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
State officials and the Legal Aid Society worked to obtain the judgment, which also gave the victims their property back, plus $62,000 in restitution.
Hawaii’s Office of Consumer Protection said that the couple hired Hep Yanez Guinn, also known as Hephzibah Yanez Lusica, in 2011 for help with loan modification but she allegedly kept their money for loan payments she never made.
