UK Regulator Fines Lloyds Bank $81M for Mortgage Handling

The UK Financial Conduct Authority has slapped Lloyds Bank with a fine of £64 million ($81 million) for mishandling the mortgages of financially distressed customers. So reports Reuters.

Britain’s biggest domestic bank and its Bank of Scotland and The Mortgage Business arms have also been paying out roughly £300 million in restitution to 526,00 customers, the FCA said.

“By not sufficiently understanding their customers’ circumstances the banks risked treating unfairly more than a quarter of a million customers in mortgage arrears, over several years,” said Mark Steward, the FCA’s executive director of enforcement.
