Proposed Changes to Appraisal Rules Hold Pros and Cons

A federal housing watchdog’s move to potentially overhaul home appraisal rules could save time but, if done wrong, could exacerbate racial inequities. So reports MarketWatch.

!--more-->The Federal Housing Finance Agency recently published a “request for input” on the protocols surrounding home appraisals, with FHFA director Mark Calabria saying, “Modernizing the appraisal process has the potential to create a more streamlined and accurate collateral valuation process.”

Experts told MarketWatch that potential challenges with the mulled changes include the impact of appraisal waivers and demographic disparities around who is granted them.
