Home Construction Caps 2021 With a Boom

U.S. homebuilding had a robust finish to last year, with construction starts rising 1.4% in December, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. So reports Builder.

Home construction new home 1664272 640 small“For the year, total housing starts registered at 1.6 million units, the highest annual pace since 2006,” noted Fannie Mae chief economist Doug Duncan, in a statement. “Helping drive last year’s strength was the impressive resilience of multifamily starts, which recorded its highest annual total since 1987.”

Total housing starts in 2021 were up 15.6% from 2020.
