Hispanic Buyers Keeping Housing, Mortgage Markets Afloat

Surging U.S. homeownership among Hispanics in recent years has helped support the housing market. So reports The Wall Street Journal.

Growth in the Hispanic homeownership rate has outpaced that for all other ethnic groups, rising 3.3 percentage points since a 50-year low in 2015. Overall U.S. homeownership has risen 1.3 percentage points since bottoming out in the second quarter of 2016.

What’s more, according to ComplianceTech’s LendingPatterns.com, Hispanic borrowers took out 9.4% of U.S. mortgages in 2018. That’s up from a recent nadir of 5.8% in 2010.
