According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. employers added 559,000 jobs in May, twice April’s unexpectedly low 266,000, and unemployment inched lower to 5.8% from 6.1%.
While forecasters were predicting a figure as big as 1 million, one economist told NBC that “the path ahead really does continue to look encouraging as we slowly make progress to return to the 3.5% unemployment rate we were seeing before the beginning of the pandemic.”
