Hiring Rebounds in May After Disappointing April Jobs Report

The latest monthly jobs numbers have provided another sign of a strong U.S. recovery, as hiring picked up in May after a lackluster April. So reports NBC.

hiring 1977803 640small 100x100According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. employers added 559,000 jobs in May, twice April’s unexpectedly low 266,000, and unemployment inched lower to 5.8% from 6.1%.

While forecasters were predicting a figure as big as 1 million, one economist told NBC that “the path ahead really does continue to look encouraging as we slowly make progress to return to the 3.5% unemployment rate we were seeing before the beginning of the pandemic.”
