Fannie, Freddie Regulator Seeks to Expedite Privatization

The head of the federal agency that oversees Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac has been working to streamline the mortgage giants’ exit from government control.

Mark Calabria, director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, is reportedly eyeing a return to private hands for the two government-sponsored entities prior to the end of President Trump’s term on January 20.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin would first have to agree to the terms of such a move.
