35 Million U.S. Homes at High Risk from Natural Hazards: Report

Almost a third of the U.S. housing stock, or 35 million homes, are exposed to high risk from natural hazards, according to the CoreLogic 2020 Catastrophe Report.

The report analyzes the natural catastrophes of 2020 through the lens of climate change, the pandemic, and the overall threat to American homeownership. The highest risk homes are in:

  • California
  • Texas
  • Oklahoma
  • Kansas
  • Nebraska
  • Along the Mississippi River
  • Large Gulf and Atlantic coastal stretches

Corelogic says that by leveraging catastrophe risk science, weather verification tools and digital workflows, insurers and mortgage lenders can better understand peril risk and damages down to a parcel level.
