When Judge Maxwell Wiley decided last December that the mortgage fraud case was too similar to Manafort’s 2018 federal trial, the jurist took an “exceedingly broad view,” according to appeal documents by Manhattan prosecutors.
The federal case resulted in Manafort being found guilty on eight counts of tax and bank fraud, with a hung jury on 10 more counts.
