Leniency for Ex-Trump Aide Accused of Mortgage Fraud?

Former Trump campaign aide Rick Gates should get a lenient sentence despite a laundry list of crimes including mortgage fraud, federal prosecutors argued in a court filing. So reports The New York Times.

Gates, 47, had offered incriminating details against influential people and withstood “pressure not to cooperate with the government, including assurances of monetary assistance,” prosecutors wrote.

While Gates pleaded guilty in February to lying to prosecutors and financial conspiracy, prosecutors said he also committed mortgage fraud, stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and failed to disclose more than $3 million in income.
