Washington Trust Settles Redlining Case for $9M

Washington Trust has agreed to pay $9 million to settle allegations that the 200-year-old community bank discriminated against Black and Hispanic borrowers. So reports The Providence Journal.

washington trustWashington Trust CEO Edward Handy III has denied the redlining allegations, which go back several years.

The settlement, which still requires a judge’s approval, also requires the bank to institute a “diverse and inclusive community advisory board,” among other concessions.
