Real Estate Agents Caught on Camera Pushing Mortgage Fraud

An investigation has caught real estate agents, mortgage brokers and bank employees on camera connecting buyers with bogus employment, salary and tax documents so they could get otherwise-unattainable mortgages. So reports CBC Marketplace.

Scam road sign 464653 1920 150x150Real estate agents told the Canadian business-news program that these networks pocket not only commissions from finalizing a sale, but also 1% of the mortgage amount for the phony mortgage application.

Two Marketplace employees went undercover posing as first-time homebuyers. They used hidden cameras. Agents at six out of 10 properties suspected of fraudulent activity offered to hook them up with fabricated documents that would allow them to qualify for a mortgage that would typically have been out of reach.
