Ask Brian: What's One Book Every Originator Should Read?

Dear Brian,

I have been in the business for almost 10 years and I love learning about new sales ideas and strategies. You seem to be very well read and I enjoy your Dear Brian column very much. So what would be one book you suggest every originator read to grow their production. --Joe T. Idaho

Dear Joe,

I do love to read and invest in my marketing education. Of course I would tell you that my 48 Proven Ways To Close More Loans  Production. But, today I am going to recommend a book that actually has nothing to do with mortgage banking or even marketing for that matter. It’s actually much more important than marketing.

The book is called Psycho Cybernetics and the author is Maxwell Maltz. The book is a classic and was written well over 50 years ago, but the information in it is priceless and timeless. All success actually begins with your mindset and your self -image. Have you ever watched a successful person literally implode and melt down. Of course you have since we see this everyday. We also see people least likely to succeed create hugely successful lives.

I actually give this book to my members and also to originators I train and mentor. This is a book I have personally read at least once or twice a year for the past 25 years.

I don’t want to give away the whole book because it truly is a career changer, but I will leave you with this thought. You can only succeed to the extent of your own self image. Think about that and then go out and get the book!
