Mortgage Rates Inch Up But Stay Near Historic Lows

Mortgage rates have risen slightly but remain close to their recent all-time lows, and experts don’t expect rates to change dramatically anytime soon. So reports Moneywise.

!--more-->According to Freddie Mac, the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 2.90% for the week ending September 24, up three basis points. The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 2.40%, an increase of five basis points.

Sam Khater, Freddie Mac’s chief economist, said a mix of high demand and low supply could eventually drive up home prices enough to hurt sales.
