Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac Put on Negative Watch by Fitch

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have been put on notice of a potential credit rating downgrade after Fitch placed them on negative watch amid debt-ceiling negotiations. So reports Reuters.

Fitch RatingsThe move followed the ratings agency’s warning of a potential U.S. credit rating downgrade if lawmakers could not resolve the debt-ceiling standoff.

Fitch said in a statement that the watch for the government-sponsored enterprises was due to “uncertainty surrounding the resolution of the RWN (Rating Watch Negative) on the U.S.”
