Foreign Investment Firms Rushing Into Suburban Housing

Overseas investors have started joining forces with housing companies to buy or build thousands of single-family rental homes in the U.S. suburbs. So reports Dow Jones.

flag 3158666 640Canadian pension funds, European insurers and sovereign wealth funds from Asian or Middle Eastern nations are collecting rent checks from blocks of houses in suburbs around places like Atlanta, Las Vegas and Phoenix.

Foreign investment in single-family rental homes has gone from next to nothing to almost a third of institutional investment in such homes, Alex Foshay of real-estate services firm Newmark told Dow Jones.
